Vadim Sidur: Admonishing peace

The sculptor Vadim Sidur (1924-1986) experienced the Holodomor in Ukraine as a child, lost Jewish relatives during the German occupation and was seriously wounded in battle against the German troops at the age of 19. These experiences also shaped his work. The Düsseldorf entrepreneur Udo van Meeteren became acquainted with Sidur's work in his basement studio in Moscow and campaigned for Sidur's sculpture calling for peace to be erected in the Hofgarten.
