On this evening, two members of the legendary Portico Quartet, bassist Milo Fitzpatrick and pianist Taz Modi, and a bit of Mammal Hands and Sunda Arc, saxophonist Jordan Smart, will be performing on our small club stage. With their second album Sierra Tracks, their cinematic chamber jazz project Vega Trails has above all created a love letter set to music for Milo's new home, the foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama, northwest of Madrid.
All of the delicately arranged pieces on this mountain soundtrack tell their own acoustic story, transforming the beautiful forest and mountain landscape into sounds as well as playing with the traditional sounds of the region, such as the melody with which the local knife grinders pass through the surrounding villages. The repetitive motifs have the effect of gliding through the breathtaking natural landscape, creating a kind of sound-deep intimate connection full of peace and healing with an inner landscape of its own. We join this declaration of love for the pictorial power of music with a declaration of love for Vega Trails.
