Vortrag | Tintin en droit

Vortrag | Tintin en droit

In the organizer's words:

Come to the CCF on Friday, November 21 and discover Tintin from a new perspective: a legal view of the famous comic series!

For almost a hundred years, the adventures of Tintin have brought readers into contact with a world in which a great variety of traditions and customs, but also rules or "laws" of different origins come to light. The behavior of the hero and his companions (in fortune and misfortune), which adapts to this normative structure, can interest lawyers regardless of their field of expertise. Legal subjects and legal objects are omnipresent in this work, but without the law having a primary role or even any significance! This paradox is sufficient to justify the "eyes of the lawyers" that have been directed at the adventures and, incidentally, makes it possible to question and analyze the place of law in Tintinology. In this way, lawyers and non-lawyers alike can discover Hergé's work in a new light and realize - if proof were needed - that it is as rich as it is timeless.

The academic director and contributor to the work, Professor Jeremy Heymann, is a professor at the Faculty of Law and Director of the Research Center for Private International Law (EDIEC-CREDIP) at the University Jean Moulin Lyon 3. For several years, he has been involved in the "Law & Comics" movement, the latest result of which is this work.

Découvrez Tintin sous un nouveau jour : venez le vendredi 21 novembre au Centre Culturel Français pour (re)découvrir la célèbre série de bandes dessinées sous un angle juridique !

For more than a century, the Adventures of Tintin have brought readers into contact with a universe in which a great diversity of traditions and customs, but also of rules and "laws" with multiple sources, appear. Adapting to this ensemble of norms, the behavior of the hero, as well as that of his associates (both fortunate and unfortunate), cannot fail to interfere with the jurist, whatever his field of expertise. Subjects as objects of law are in fact omnipresent in the work, unless law has any relevance, or even any importance! This paradox is enough to justify the "views of jurists" that are portrayed in the adventures, allowing us to question and analyze the place of law in tinology. Jurists and non-jurists alike can thus discover Hergé's oeuvre from a new perspective and realize, if necessary, that it is as rich as it is incomprehensible.
