Katie Crutchfield is a true believer. For more than a decade, the 35-year-old American has been bouncing from genre to genre in the Americana and indie haze on the records of her project Waxahatchee with remarkable naturalness, unflinchingly and fearlessly following her own muse beyond fleeting trends and the temptations of quick success. Blessed with an unmistakable voice that is honest and close with typical Southern charm, she is also so unique in her melodic style that after half a dozen records her music is now practically without reference. For her upcoming tour, on which she and her band will be stopping off in Cologne, Schorndorf, Berlin and Hamburg in July, the artist, originally from Alabama and now based in Kansas, has her fantastic new album "Tigers Blood" in her luggage, on which she sounds more determined and self-assured than ever and looks the truth fearlessly in the eye.

Katie Crutchfield can already look back on an impressive career, which over the last twelve years has taken her from the intimacy and vulnerability of the Waxahatchee lo-fi folkdebut "American Weekend" to much more powerful, boundary-pushing indie rock productions and back to the 2020 highlight "Saint Cloud", which was characterized by the very Americana crooner flair that is now also the focus of "Tigers Blood". "I consider myself lucky that I can always reinvent myself on a small scale without compromising my natural talents," Crutchfield once said a few years ago, and you can actually feel at her concerts that she never has to bend for what she does. With deeply felt emotions, the wisdom of her song lyrics, which are taken from the middle of life and yet hard-won, and her unagitated, unaffected demeanor, it is easy for Crutchfield to fascinate and inspire with her uniqueness on stage.
