Wer hat Angst vor Hexen ?
PICK OF THE DAY
You cannot miss this event.
In the organizer's words:
Why do witches still fascinate us today? Their history is marked by persecution, violence, and great injustice. At the same time, witches are reappearing in our lives today—at the intersection of natural knowledge and the art of healing, female self-determination, and #WitchTok.
The evening explores these diverse threads and examines how our image of the witch has changed. Conversations, yodeling, and music blend with the scent of incense, a “witch’s brew” tasting, and a magically delicious meal—navigating the space between ancient myths and modern images of witches.
The Program
Witch Hunts in History and the Present
Historian Andreas Flurschütz da Cruz speaks about the history of witch hunts—with a special focus on Bavaria.
Witches in Exile
Artist and photographer Ann-Christine Woehrl presents photographs and a short film from her project *Witches in Exile*. In it, she tells the stories of women who are still stigmatized and persecuted as witches to this day.
The Return of the Witch
Writer, journalist—and witch—Luisa Francia discusses new representations of witches, a connection to nature, and female self-determination.
All-Women Choir “The Witches of Westend”
The choir is a feminist-activist all-women* choir. Under the direction of Pola Dobler, they perform rare indie and ’60s songs, create mystical soundscapes without lyrics, and convey rebellious messages with a clear feminist stance through their original compositions. A performance by The Witches of Westend reminds us of a unifying feminine power and what it means to make our voices heard together.
Yodeling with Voice of Nature
Amelie and Flo from Voice of Nature bring together yodeling, polyphonic singing, and an experience of nature. Yodeling and nature chants—just like traditional witch stories—are part of the deep roots in Alpine culture and folk tradition and originally developed as a form of calling out and communicating.
