Resistance & Life is growing! After bringing our eeden series to the Reeperbahn Festival last year, this year we’re exploring another very special venue: We’re thrilled to continue Resistance & Life in collaboration with the MARKK at the MARKK. A place where change itself is being tested—and where, in the future, we’ll be able to provide even more people with a space to read, think, ask questions, debate, and search together for ways to live in solidarity and resistance.

“Resistance & Life”
with TOMER DOTAN-DREYFUS
Reading and discussion with Kübra Gümüşay

September 29, 2026
Doors open: 5:30 p.m. / Start: 6:00 p.m.
Location: MARKK
Rothenbaumchaussee 64

We’re kicking off the Resistance x Life season on September 29 with the magnificent author and translator Tomer Dotan-Dreyfus. Raised in Haifa, Israel, he now lives in Berlin, writes regularly about Palestine and Israel, and is one of the most prominent and compelling voices in this discourse.

His first novel, *Birobidschan* (Voland & Quist), was longlisted for the 2023 German Book Prize. His second novel, *Gavdos*, will be published in early September. In his book*keinheimisch*, he tells the story of his family, overshadowed by the Holocaust, while simultaneously questioning the history of Israel’s founding. His grandfather took part in the Nakba, yet the expulsion of the Palestinians was later portrayed as “liberation.” What role did his grandfather really play in 1948? In “keinheimisch,” childhood memories blend with reflections on history, literature, and politics. A moving book about narratives and the question of how much one can trust them, in which Dotan-Dreyfus also asks where a Jew can feel at home today—in Israel, Palestine, or Germany?

› About the eeden discussion series “Resistance & Life” with Kübra Gümüşay

Learning about and exploring the world—both within and without—can continue throughout one’s entire life. Throughout one’s life, a person can grow, learn new things, rediscover the old, shed layers, and transform. Learning to truly be human in times of dehumanization, oppression, fascist tendencies, arms buildup, warmongering, and exploitation. Exploring the artificial walls and borders, ditches and chasms that lie between us—which we sometimes consciously, sometimes unconsciously maintain.

So how can we learn and grow in solidarity and resistance in these times? How can we live—and not merely survive?

In our reading series “Resistance & Life,” we set out in search of answers to these questions and invite authors of resistance to get to know them, their books, their thoughts, and their perspectives more closely, to immerse ourselves in their words, and to engage in conversation with you. In resistance, in solidarity, and in connection.
