Even the ancient Greeks believed that nature consists of indivisible particles, atoms. Today we know that atoms are made up of elementary particles. String theory describes the smallest particles as vibrational states of a thread-like object, like the different notes of a violin string. Why does this make sense? What does this have to do with Einstein's gravitational force & extra spatial dimensions?
