Embodying a sensory space

15. + 17.07.2024 (SOFT) // 15.-17.07.2024 (INTENSIVE)

During this 3-day workshop you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in Astrid's choreographic practice and movement methodology. The focus of the workshop is on the study of the body through intuitive research, with the aim of rediscovering the inner space of the body and the environment in which the body is located from a new sensory space.
Through sensory improvisation tasks and experiments, Astrid will guide participants through processes of self-discovery as they work on decision making that utilizes their existing knowledge as well as their intuition and instinct. We will focus on inner exploration, increasing physical awareness of body and space and encouraging a broader understanding of one's own body to ultimately redefine what bodily autonomy means for everyone.

ASTRID BOONS

Astrid Boons (1988, Belgium) is a choreographer and performer. From 2021-2025 she is a guest artist at the Korzo Theater in the Netherlands.
In 2023 she premiered the piece Khôra, which is currently touring internationally. In 2020, she created Crash for the Tanztheater Heidelberg. Her other works include Do you believe me yet? (2022), Arise (2021), Fields (2019), Decay (2018), Vestige (2017) and Rhizoma (2016).
Astrid received the BNG Bank Dance Award 2017 and the Piket Art Award 2017 for her duet Rhizoma (2016). In 2021 she was nominated for the prestigious Dutch Dance Days Award for Choreography. In 2022 she received the Fast Forward Grant ('Dutch Fund for Performing Arts') to expand her artistic practice and international connections. As a dancer, Astrid has worked with Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch (2017-2018), Nederlands Dans Theater 1 (2017), GöteborgsOperans Danskompani (2013-2016), Nederlands Dans Theater 2 (2009-2013), Dansgroep Amsterdam (2009) and Dansgroep Krisztina De Châtel (2008).

Alongside her work as a choreographer, Astrid develops her movement practice, which stems from her choreographic research. She has taught in international companies and schools such as Nederlands Dans Theater, Tanztheater Heidelberg, Opera Ballet Flanders, Hessian State Ballet, Norwegian Ballet, NOD, Codarts, ArtEZ, AHK, Royal Conservatory Antwerp and others.
Astrid graduated from the Royal Ballet School Antwerp (BE). She holds a BA Dance from Codarts (NL) and a BA of Arts (Honours) in Humanities (Art History and Philosophy) from the Open University (UK). Since 2021 she is also a certified Vinyasa Yoga teacher.

WORKSHOPS

In each workshop we will work intensively with one of the artists over 3 days.

Each workshop is offered for two levels:
SOFT - slower pace, for relaxed people or those with little previous experience
INTENSIVE - faster tempo, for motivated or with dance experience & professionals

13:30-16:00 Soft - only 15. & 17.07.

SUMMER ACADEMY

The TanzFaktur Summer Academy - Cologne's international festival for contemporary dance- takes place every year in mid-July. Thelarge-scale two-week festival is a platform for top-class national and international artists, projects and collectives.

In addition to the performances, workshops for professionals and dance enthusiasts offer opportunities for exchange between dance professionals and the audience.
