Triplet Phrasing

11.-13.07.2024

Zino will present his method called "Triplet Phrasing". In this workshop he will present tools to expand the improvisational vocabulary and introduce his choreographic method for creating partnering material.

Triplet Phrasing allows the dancer to actively participate in the creation. This workshop will explore individual movement exploration and how it can be used to develop partnering phrases. Schat's work focuses on the fusion of hip-hop tools into a hybrid contemporary language.

Zino Schat (NL)

Born and raised in Amsterdam, Zino Schat is a versatile artist with a passion for choreography and performance art. The 34-year-old has built a career as artistic director of the Fractal Collective.

Zino's choreographic approach is uniquely shaped by his multidisciplinary background. As a former dancer, guitarist, videographer, 3D designer and sound designer, he brings a wide range of artistic skills to his work. His early experience as a street performer gave him a deep understanding of the dynamic between performer and audience, a crucial element that he continues to emphasize in his artistic practice. He has also worked as a choreographer for the Dutch National Opera and is now dedicated to his own company, Fractal Collective.

A central theme in Zino's work is the exploration of identity in our society. He explores how different identities come together and manifest themselves in different forms and expressions. With his roots in hip-hop style, he has developed a hybrid movement language that is clearly recognizable in his choreographies.

Zino is currently artist in residence at Korzo, a renowned platform for contemporary dance in the Netherlands. He also shares his knowledge and experience as a teacher and coach in the Department of Extended Contemporary Dance at the Amsterdam University of the Arts. Through his work as a choreographer and his commitment to education, Zino contributes significantly to the growth and vibrancy of the dance community.

WORKSHOPS

In each individual workshop, participants will work intensively with one of the artists over 3 days.

Each workshop is offered for two levels:
SOFT - slower tempo, for relaxed dancers or those with little previous experience
INTENSIVE - faster tempo, for motivated or with dance experience & professionals

SUMMER ACADEMY

The TanzFaktur Summer Academy - Cologne's international festival for contemporary dance- takes place every year in mid-July. Thelarge-scale two-week festival is a platform for top-class national and international artists, projects and collectives.

In addition to the performances, workshops for professionals and dance enthusiasts offer opportunities for exchange between dance professionals and the audience.
