A free open-air concert in Leipzig, hosted by someone who grew up here: Yung Pepp will perform on August 16, 2026, on the roof of the Moritzbastei—free admission, first come, first served.

There are home shows, and then there are home shows. Yung Pepp grew up in Leipzig, spending his youth on soccer fields, at late-night hangouts, and on the streets of Plagwitz—and that’s exactly what his songs are about. On Sunday, August 16, 2026, he’ll return to a rooftop that holds special meaning for him: the Moritzbastei. That’s where he played his very first solo concert in September 2025, which sold out with 900 tickets. This time, admission is free.

From his childhood bedroom in Plagwitz to the big stages

Yung Pepp has been making music since he was twelve. In 2022, at age 13, he released his first EP—simply titled “13.” Raised in a musical household (his mother is a vocal coach, and his father is no stranger to the Leipzig rap scene), he has gradually built up a fan base that has recently grown rapidly.

His breakthrough came via social media and through songs that hit exactly the themes that are currently on the minds of an entire generation: fears about the future, friendship, and coming of age in uncertain times. “Junge Träume aus Gold” hit the one-million mark on Instagram, and “Wassereis” is heading toward one and a half million streams on Spotify. Most of the tracks are produced by Florida Juicy, with whom he has now been collaborating for several years.

In between: two performances at the splash! Festival, a spot in the splash! cypher, the collaboration “Ganz oben” with Kid Kapri, his first solo tour in January 2026, a nomination for the MDR New Music Hotlist—and a performance at Dresden’s Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion, where he opened for Kraftklub in front of over 30,000 people. His music can best be described as modern indie rap: sometimes thoughtful, sometimes playful, always drawn directly from real life. Like a coming-of-age movie, only set in Leipzig instead of L.A.

“Always Be Loud” – Music with a Stance

The concert’s title says it all. Yung Pepp takes a clear stand against right-wing extremism—“My cap says ‘Fuck Nazis’ and I wear it every day,” he sings in “Junge Träume aus Gold”—and this stance also shapes the evening on the rooftop.

In addition to the music, there will therefore be several political information booths where you can take your time to look around and learn more. Among those participating areWidersetzen, theSeapunks, and theLeipzig School Strike Against Conscription. There will also be goodies fromKonsum Leipzig.

Yung Pepp isn’t revealing yet whichfriendswill be there—the special guests will be announced one by one. Anyone who’s been to his previous shows knows: he’s rarely alone on stage.

And once it’s full, it’s full.Doors open at 4 p.m., and the show starts at 5 p.m.—so if you want to be sure to get in, you should arrive at Kurt-Masur-Platz sooner rather than later.

And then there’s the venue itself. The Moritzbastei has been one of the city’s most important cultural centers for over 40 years; the fortress was originally built in the 16th century. In the summer, the rooftop is one of Leipzig’s most beautiful open-air stages: open sky, views of the city center, the Gewandhaus, and the “Uni-Riese” right next door.
