The Hoesch Museum in the north of Dortmund was created through the trusting cooperation of former "Hoeschians", the Museum of Art and Cultural History, the Westphalian Economic Archive Foundation and generous sponsors. All those involved were united by an awareness of the enormous importance that the steel industry played for the Ruhr region in general and Hoesch and its associated companies for the Dortmund conurbation in particular. Large cities grew in the shadow of the blast furnaces, combining thousands of individual life stories into a common identity and making the Ruhr one of the most important industrial regions in Europe.
The Hoesch Museum aims to preserve the memory of a century and a half of the steel industry in Dortmund, to accompany the structural change in a lively dialog and, last but not least, to document how important this high-tech industry still is.
Admission to the permanent exhibition is free of charge!
Due to extensive renovation work, the Hoesch Museum is expected to remain closed until March 2025. Some selected events will still take place.
