At the age of seventeen, Irish folk singer-songwriter Sonny Casey began traveling and busking around Europe.
Her music is influenced by the likes of Nick Drake and Damien Rice. Stories, poetry and the wild landscape of her home on the West Coast of Ireland weave their way through her songs. Her distinctive voice dances between soft and delicate and soulful and raspy. Her deep love of words and storytelling lends itself to emotive, narrative lyrics with hidden profundities, drawn from dark places.
In 2020, Sonny planted roots in Berlin. Supported by those who'd fall for her music along her travels, she ran a successful crowdfunding campaign, to record her debut live EP with a band. In 2021, she released her EP 'Phoebe', selling out her debut headline show. After her performance of 'Danny Boy' on ARD's 'Lebensleider' with Max Mutske and violinist Daniel Hope her music charted in Germany.
In 2023, in an attic by the Atlantic Ocean, she began recording her debut album. With producer Rotem Fisher and drummer Tom Osander (Damien Rice, Lisa Hannigan) the first single from her upcoming album is set for release in 2024.
