East of Elsewhere’s group exhibition/event/happening, shadow << play >> addresses the stakes of the ephemeral and the permanent, fleeting and fixed. The exhibition will take place between East of Elsewhere’s Büschingstraße location and Volkspark Friedrichshain across the street. Artists are invited to create a diptych: one piece to be presented in East of Elsewhere’s domestic gallery and another along a path in Volkspark. Both works will be site-specific, created for the domestic and outdoor spaces where they are presented. There will be no recording or preservation of pieces presented in the park. The dialogue between these presentations leads us to the questions: what belongs where? What are our conscious and subconscious associations with space? What is the value we attach to preservation?
