Dancing is not just dancing. Dancing can be much more than just movements.
In this event we will approach the act of dancing as deliberately ritual, transcendental, indeed mindful. In a ritualized setup, like in the traditional rites associated to ancient cults and cultures, dancing can be a healing tool when coupled with conscious cultural learning and mindful techniques. There is the possibility to work on dance and movement patterns that would be suitable to anyone willing to improve their body-mind connection, indeed their psychological/neurological well-being. We intend to do so through promoting self-expression, a healthy balance between non-inhibition and self-control, body positivity, rhythmical prowess, movement coordination, movement synchronization and movement independence (distinguishing from body parts, e.g., arms, legs, head) when dancing to polyrhythmic music, conscious psychological and/or cultural identification with the subject and imagery of the music and the context (dance rite), playful interactions with the others (though Covid-limited); and, whenever possible, we will aim at reaching transcendental and spiritually relevant states of the mind beyond the actual dance.
Having an outdoor location seems ideal to not just avoid Covid-19 contagions but also to dance in a very healthy way in which we will involve the surrounding nature as the best suited scenario for our dance ritual. Welcome back!
Since the past 40 years a new (though not so out-of-the-blue) dance-friendly music has emerged: electronic dance music. From the very Afro American house of Chicago and Techno of Detroit to the European post-industrial Techno pioneers of Dusseldorf, Manchester, and Berlin the behavioral revolution had to be danced! One aspect of most dance-friendly electronic music is the (poly)ryhthmic command of it, its beat, the repetitive and at times deliberately psychedelic effect on our minds. In this Techno therapy we will exploit this ritual-prone kind of music which has a lot in common with the most cherished ancient ritual music from all over the world. In fact, our modern Techno/Electro/House have probably evolved from those ancient rites in which music is intended to make you dance „for yourself“, for your spirit and for your own beliefs. And, of course, for your own personal relationship with your body.
Blended in the lessons without a particular sequence, we will dance to the following music styles: House (Classical, Acid, Italian, Afro, tech, deep), Techno (old-school, current, ethereal, space), Minimal, some Ambient, Industrial, some Drum&Base, some Ethno(Techno), Trance, diverse meditative and ritual(ish) electronic music
Frequency: Once a week. Since this is not a course (or workshop) but instead a venue for rehearsing/training/practicing happening every Friday and intended to run the whole summer, you can always catch up and come when you want/can.
Dates: every Friday at 6:00-8:00 pm. From mid September till the end of the season the event will be at 5:00-7:00 pm. We have enough light-devices to keep us illuminated after the sunset!
Price: 5 EUR per hour and per person (a 120-min session will cost 10 EUR). We accept cash only. Children under 15 don't pay (only donation if you want) but you need to dance with them by your side (or in your arms).
Inscription: Not essential but preferred. Just send and e-mail to Regina LoMio (LoMío) firstname.lastname@example.org.
Outfit and Covid-19 policy: Training outfits, sports wear, or similar. No shoes (barefoot) or dark(ish) training shoes suitable to dance on grassless (though not really rocky) soil. Corona-required hygienic measures would be absolutely respected: keeping a minimum distance of 1,5 m is a must.
Language: English (German or Spanish on request).
Address: We meet at the door of the Mariposa – Raum für Transformation at 17:40, then at 17:55 we move towards the Viktoriapark. Should you be late, do not panic. Whenever possible the sessions will be at the sport's field (surrounded by green fences) at the left side (from Kreuzbergstr.) of the base of the "Eiserne Kreuz" (Iron Cross) monument. Once in front of the monument, turn left and follow the paved street looking down through the trees on your left side: there we are!. Look in the event's Discussion for a detailed map with the highlighted site.
Please, don't be too afraid of the possible rain since it would take a bit more than usually expected for me to cancel event dates. Provided it is not like a dangerous storm I still would play and we will dance under the rain as we got water-proof equipment.
