We only danced together once and decided on a second date. Come and observe as we get to know each other. Leading, following, lifting, holding, sharing weight, sharing movement. Are we saying yes, to trust? Using contact improvisation, partnering, and acrobatics, Maayan and Swantje explore the potential of their fresh encounter as performers.
Short biographies:
Swantje Kawecki (*1996) is an artist of contemporary circus, a dancer and researcher curious about the meeting point between theory and practice. She completed her studies in Circus and Performance Art in Tilburg 2021 and is currently based in Cologne, where she is completing her Master´s degree in Dance Studies at the Centre of Contemporary Dance.
Swantje Kawecki performs frequently with varying concepts and styles, including the site-specific duet Leverage from choreographer Hannah Rogerson, the techno rave performance Habitat from Doris Uhlich, the theatre-circus show A Clockwork Orange from Tall Tales Company or her pieces.
Furthermore, Swantje Kawecki is researching about the use of dance terminology in hybrid performances of contemporary circus and dance and the influence of such within the cultural field.
Maayan Reiter is a dancer, video creator, motion designer, choreographer, and Contact Improvisation teacher. In her work, Maayan uses physical communication as a tool for studying social and interpersonal relations, and to test the boundaries of habitual behavior. She aspires to examine the possibilities of integrating multimedia in order to bring out voices and ideas that usually remain buried under the morass of social norms and linguistic constraints. She trained in contemporary dance at SEAD – Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance, and is currently studying Integrated Design at KISD – Köln International School of Design. There, she’s been exploring new ways to combine dance with technology, applying her extensive knowledge of filmmaking.
While creating her own work, Maayan also collaborated with various artists, including: Simone Forti (USA), Willi Dorner (AUT), Ceren Oran (TR/GER), Charlotte Triebus (GER), Nir De Volff (ISR/DE), Andrea K. Schlehwein + Netzwerk AKS (AUT), Nayana Keshava Bhat (IND) + INFLUX (AUT), Zina Vaessen (GER), Hubert Lepka + Lawine Torrèn (AUT), Lital Ben-Horin (ISR) and more. Maayan aspires to create a space in which performer and audience can find a deep connection, that hopefully overcomes their presumptions and offers some solace in an increasingly alienated world.
