Four American artists, who are deeply rooted in Washington, D.C.'s hardcore punk and underground art scenes, will meet for an artist talk at their first exhibition outside the US.
The photographs of Lely Constantinople, Martina Fornace, Claire Packer and Antonia Tricarico are represented in numerous private collections, as well as institutions such as the Smithsonian Institution, and publications like the Washington Post and Girlgaze (Rizzoli). The artists have collaborated with labels such as Tolotta Records, Dischord Records and Kill Rock Stars, as well as numerous musicians.
The talk focuses on the photographers' work, their initial motivations for pursuing photography as an art form, and the ways in which photography can capture atmosphere, emotion, and mood beyond what is immediately visible. It also explores how their practice engages with human presence and our relationship to place.
In addition, the conversation examines the challenges of living and working in Washington, D.C.—a city currently at the centre of political discourse with far-reaching implications for artists worldwide—and how this environment shapes their work. It considers the complexities of creating within a city that is simultaneously creative, fast-paced, and deeply influenced by politics, particularly in the context of a prevailing right-wing agenda.
