The art of DJing is harder to dissect than other forms of musical live performance: it takes more than a glance to understand what’s happening and to evaluate a DJ's skill. It’s not just about beatmatching; it’s about reading a crowd, a room, the timing, the setting, and much more. Track selection can be more than just choosing one’s favorite beats—it’s an art form in itself. Evaluating a good DJ set often involves reading between the lines. Tonight, we have two DJs with strong stances on dance music culture: where it comes from, how it should be played, and with what kind of respect—Sam Paganini, Bashkka and Jonas Yamer.

Sam Paganini tries to combine broad success with underground values. The CV of this Modern Techno paragon (just think of the monumental hits Rave, Hypnotize, or Pulse!) is filled with stamps from the most discerning clubs. Recently, he made a statement under a post titled #pleasebringbacktherealclubculture, criticizing the lack of > moral responsibility < among some of today’s big names when it comes to track selection and acknowledging the history and unwritten rules of DJing and dance music culture. He expressed concern over the prevalence of > Euro Dance Pop Tunes < at major festivals, lamenting a lack of recognition for the great innovators who have shaped the history and culture of our music. Whatever your stance on this, it’s clear that the esteemed Sam Paganini still cares deeply about the art and culture of DJing and clubs, and we’re delighted to welcome him back to Blitz this September for a night of classy grooves and driving beats—the old-school way!

Joining him is our resident Bashkka, another highly skilled and creative artist with a similar dedication to preserving the memory of dance music, highlighting that the roots of club culture were laid by queer and trans people of colour. Aphrodisiac and spicy, colourful grooves are her forte! She exemplifies how, in this day and age, it’s not only about musical talent but also about having a well-informed stance, a sociocultural position, and an attitude towards music. Bashkka ticks all these boxes with ease.

Adding final touches to the night is the Molten Moods head Jonas Yamer, spinning thrilling Techno with a nonconformist, underground approach shaped by his background and experiences from Doom Metal to Soundart and many more.

DJing lässt sich schwieriger beurteilen als andere Formen musikalischer Live-Performances. Es braucht mehr als nur einen flüchtigen Blick, um zu verstehen, was wirklich passiert und die Fähigkeiten eines DJs zu erkennen. Es geht nicht nur um das Beatmatching; vielmehr geht es darum, das Publikum zu lesen, den Raum und das Timing zu verstehen und das Setting zu kennen und verstehen. Die Trackauswahl kann weit mehr sein als nur das Auswählen der Lieblingsbeats – sie ist eine Kunstform für sich. Ein gutes DJ-Set zu bewerten, erfordert oft das Lesen zwischen den Zeilen, das Verstehen von Kontexten und das Erkennen des Vibes. Heute Abend begrüßen wir zwei DJs, die eine klare Haltung zur Dance-Music-Kultur vertreten: Woher sie kommt, wie sie gespielt werden sollte und mit welchem Respekt – Sam Paganini,  Bashkka und Jonas Yamer.

Sam Paganini versucht, den großen Erfolg mit den musikalischen Werten des Undergrounds zu vereinen. Der Lebenslauf der Modern-Techno-Ikone (man denke nur an die monumentalen Hits „Rave“, „Hypnotize“ oder „Pulse“) ist gespickt mit Sets in den anspruchsvollsten Clubs der Szene. Kürzlich äußerte er sich unter dem Hashtag #pleasebringbacktherealclubculture besorgt über die > moralische Verantwortung < einiger heutiger großer Namen bei der Trackauswahl und kritisierte den Mangel an Anerkennung der Geschichte und ungeschriebenen Regeln der DJ- und Dance-Music-Kultur. Besonders besorgt zeigte er sich über die Vorherrschaft von > Euro Dance Pop Tunes < auf großen Festivals und den fehlenden Respekt für die Pioniere, die die Geschichte und Kultur dieser Musik geprägt haben.
Egal wie man zu diesen Aussagen steht, eines ist klar: Sam Paganini ist nach wie vor tief in der Kunst und Kultur des DJings und der Clubszene verankert. Wir freuen uns, ihn diesen September wieder im Blitz willkommen zu heißen, für eine Nacht voller treibender Grooves, ganz im Geiste der alten Schule!

Begleitet wird er von unserer Resident-DJ Bashkka, einer weiteren hoch talentierten und kreativen Künstlerin, die ebenfalls eine starke Hingabe zur Bewahrung der Erinnerung an die Dance-Music-Kultur zeigt, insbesondere an die Wurzeln der Clubkultur, die von queeren und trans Personen of Color gelegt wurden. Bashkka spielt farbenfrohe und aphrodisierende Grooves mit Stil, die mächtig einschlagen. Sie zeigt, dass es in der heutigen Zeit nicht mehr nur auf musikalisches Talent ankommt, sondern auch auf eine fundierte soziokulturelle Position und eine durchdachte Haltung zur Musik. Bashkka erfüllt all diese Kriterien mühelos.
Molten Moods Mastermind Jonas Yamer verpasst der Nacht den letzten Schliff. Er spielt Techno mit einem nonkonformistischen, undergroundorientierten Ansatz, der ebenso von seinem Background in Doom Metal bis hin zu Soundart geprägt ist.
