Can I be here?
There are paths in life that seem to be chosen for us - shaped by our identities, experiences, vulnerabilities, and fears. Along these paths, bridges become points of connection: crossings that carry us towards a destination that has already been decided.
But what if we could bend the bridge? What if we could change its direction, and choose where it leads?
Collaboratively created by members of the Berlin Whacking Community, Can I Be Here? is a work-in-progress performance exploring how far we can travel from our predetermined paths, and what it takes to make that journey. Through the dance style whacking, the work asks what happens when we challenge the routes laid out for us and dare to imagine somewhere else.
Von:
Whacking Berlin Community, led by Anna Koddenbrock & Joanna Woźnicka
The Berlin Whacking Community is not only a space to come together through dance and self expression but to create new forms of performance and care. Whacking is a dance style that originated in the gay clubs of Los Angeles in the 1970s, and was shaped primarily by Black, Latinx, and Asian communities.
Performer*innen: Filine Volkmann-Spruijt, LaBaijka, Minh Phan (Keksi), Luna Victoria, Zorani, Jelena Pokrovac, Anna-Sophia Hanke, Antonio Tuccillo, Mathi Berbineau
Anna Koddenbrock is a queer performer, creating theatre experiences that connect stories of community across time and breaking with hierarchical binaries of then/now, you/me and professional dance/community dance.
Joanna Woźnicka is a Polish-British multi-disciplinary artist. Her theatrical work focuses on queer and migrant stories, often touching upon themes of identity and belonging.
