WE ARE WHAT WE ARE NOT: Dinner-Performance "Eat a Museum" im RJM

Im Rahmen der Ausstellung WE ARE WHAT WE ARE NOT lädt der Kurator und Künstler Yohannes Mulat Mekonnen dazu ein, das Museum mit allen Sinnen zu erfahren – nicht nur im Museum zu essen, sondern das Museum selbst zu essen.

EAT A MUSEUM ist eine Dinner-Performance, die Kochen und Essen als kuratorische und künstlerische Methoden versteht: als Möglichkeiten, sich durch die RJM-Sammlung zu bewegen, sie zu befragen und neu zu verarbeiten.
Die Gäste sind eingeladen, in der Ausstellung Platz zu nehmen und ein kuratiertes Drei-Gänge-Menü zu genießen, das aus der Sammlung hervorgeht.

Essen, Schmecken, Austausch und Gespräche verbinden sich zu einem gemeinsamen Erlebnis, das neue Perspektiven auf Museen und Sammlungen eröffnet.

Wichtiger Hinweis: Das Drei-Gänge-Menü ist nicht vegetarisch und enthält sowohl Fleisch als auch Fisch. Getränke sind im Preis enthalten. Das Event findet in engl. Sprache statt.

Über den Kurator: Yohannes Mulat Mekonnen ist ein äthiopischer multidisziplinärer Künstler und visueller Anthropologe. Derzeit ist er Gerda-Henkel-Forschungsstipendiat am Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum (RJM) sowie Fellow an der Universität Bonn.

As part of the exhibition WE ARE WHAT WE ARE NOT  the Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum Cologne, together with curator and artist Yohannes Mulat Mekonnen, invites you to the event “EAT A MUSEUM.”

The exhibition focuses on museum objects that are no longer part of the RJM collection, thereby making absence tangible and experienceable as a space for reflection, memory, and imagination.

Through “Eat a Museum,” the museum becomes the setting for a special culinary experience. In the exhibition space, guests are invited to take a seat and enjoy a carefully curated three-course menu inspired by the collection and its missing objects.

Eating, tasting, exchange, and conversation come together in a shared experience that opens new perspectives on museums and collections.

Important note: The three-course menu is not vegetarian and includes both meat and fish. Drinks are included.

About the curator: Yohannes Mulat Mekonnen is a multidisciplinary artist and visual anthropologist. He is currently a Visual Anthropology Fellow at the University of Bonn and a Gerda Henkel Research Fellow at the Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum (RJM).
