Liebe Cineast:innen, es ist angerichtet!

Kuriose Zeitreisen, Schlafanomalien, Rektum-fixierte Aliens, Metamorphosen zwischen Mensch und Materie, ein Serum, das ewige Jugend verspricht: Es sind wieder verrückte Themen zusammengekommen. Für Horror ist dabei gesorgt. Das Festival eröffnen wir mit James Watkins‘ verstörendem SPEAK NO EVIL und James McAvoys preisverdächtiger Performance. Danach ist von Splatter über blutigen Racheepos bis zu Bodyhorror alles dabei. Das 38. Fantasy ist eine harte Ausgabe! Doch bezaubernd poetische Geschichten gibt es auch – wie ELSE, den wir einen Tag nach der Weltpremiere in Toronto zeigen. Genauso hochaktuell machen das dies- jährige Programm zudem ESCAPE FROM THE 21st CENTURY (ebenfalls direkt aus Toronto), die Europapremiere des Director’s Spotlight PÁRVULOS und einer der meist erwarteten Filme der Saison, unser furioser Abschlussfilm TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN. 

Darüber hinaus liegen clevere Thriller im Trend mit STRANGE DARLING, THE WASP und A PLACE CALLED SILENCE. Genauso wie viele starke Frauen, etwa in SAYARA oder MERMAID LEGEND, unserem kleinen Ausflug ins japanische Exploitation-Kino der 1980er. Beeindruckenden Kampfgeist beweisen Samara Weaving in AZRAEL oder Demi Moore und Margaret Qualley in THE SUBSTANCE. Zudem gibt es einen neuen Wettbewerb zu entdecken. „Sieben Festivalstädte – Sieben Jury-Mitglieder – Sieben Filme“ ist das Motto. Wir sind gespannt, welchen Titel unsere erste Jury mit dem FEAR GOOD AWARD auszeichnen wird! Zu guter Letzt können wir einen stolzen Rekord verbuchen: 15 Regisseur:innen waren bereits mit ihren Vorgängerfilmen beim Festival vertreten, darunter Fabrice du Welz, der mit seinem düsteren True- Crime-Thriller MALDOROR das diesjährige Centerpiece stellt. Dear Cineasts - dinner is served!

Strange time travel, sleep anomalies, rectum-fixated aliens, metamorphoses between humans and matter, a serum that promises eternal youth: crazy topics on one spot. A lot of horror is present too. The festival opens with James Watkins' disturbing SPEAK NO EVIL and an award-winning performance by James McAvoy. After that, there's everything from splatter to bloody revenge epic to body horror. The 38th Fantasy is a tough (!) edition! But there are also enchantingly poetic stories – like ELSE, which we are showing one day after its world premiere in Toronto. Our this year's program is even more up to date with ESCAPE FROM THE 21st CENTURY (also direct from Toronto), the European premiere of the Director's Spotlight PÁRVULOS and one of the most anticipated films of the season, our furious closing film TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN. 

In addition, clever thrillers are on trend with STRANGE DARLING, THE WASP and A PLACE CALLED SILENCE. Just like many strong women, for example in SAYARA or MERMAID LEGEND, our small flashback into the Japanese exploitation cinema of the 1980s. Samara Weaving in AZRAEL or Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley in THE SUBSTANCE demonstrate impressive fighting skills. And there is also a new competition to discover: "Seven festival cities – seven jury members – seven films" is the motto. We are excited to find out which title our first jury will honour with the FEAR GOOD AWARD! Last but not least, we can mention a proud record: 15 directors have already been represented at the festival with their previous films, including Fabrice du Welz, who is this year's centerpiece with his dark true crime thriller MALDOROR.
