Berlin, Germany – The Feral Folk Festival, a groundbreaking event dedicated to showcasing the exceptional talent within Berlin's alternative, folk-noir and singer-songwriter scene, will be held on 21st September at Freilichtbuehne in Weissensee. This inaugural festival aims to elevate the profile of the city’s thriving folk and alternative music community, with a particular focus on the extraordinary female artists who are making waves in the genre.

Curated in collaboration with The Famous Gold Watch, a renowned studio in Weißensee, along with funding from Music Board Berlin, this festival brings together some of the most compelling voices in Berlin's folk and alternative scene. The Famous Gold Watch has a history of nurturing and supporting artists, helping them develop their musicianship and produce high-quality records. The festival will serve as a platform for these artists to connect with the local community and beyond, highlighting the rich cultural tapestry of Berlin’s music scene.

Festival Lineup:

  • Lotta St Joan – Known for her melancholic folk sound, reminiscent of legends like Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez, Lotta St Joan's music transports listeners back to the folk movement of the 60s with her beautiful, melancholic voice.

  • Kiki Annette – Often described whilst living in the UK as “Manchester’s Phoebe Bridgers,” Dutch artist Kiki Annette brings hauntingly beautiful lyrics and a warm voice that stays with you long after her songs end.
  • Wyn Oran – This Scottish/Irish musician crafts mystical folk songs with traditional Gaelic influences that offer a glimpse into a world of dark beauty and introspection.

  • Witch ‘n’ Monk – This avant-garde duo fuses Latin American flutes, anarchic soprano vocals, and jazz-punk guitar, creating a multidimensional and theatrical live experience.
  • Tolyqyn – Tolyqyn is a Berlin-based three-piece alternative rock band, founded by Roland Satterwhite, known for its genre-transcending music blending jazz harmonies and Ghanaian highlife. The band’s critically acclaimed debut album was followed by extensive European festival tours and the sophomore album, "Silver Seed."
  • Donata – An award-winning singer-songwriter, Donata’s music explores personal and spiritual growth, with a sound rooted in indie-folk and influenced by her diverse musical background.
  • Grimson – Swedish/American songwriter Aiden Berglund, known for his dark humour and baroque pop arrangements, brings a multimedia element to his folk-inspired music.

The festival aims not only to entertain but also to raise awareness about the high-quality artists within Berlin’s folk/ alternative music scene. By bringing this vibrant music to the community of Weißensee, the festival hopes to establish the area as a new cultural hub in Berlin.

The Feral Folk Festival has the potential to become an annual event, fostering a sustainable tradition that promotes Berlin’s thriving folk-noir and alternative scene to a wider audience.
