Futuristic Folk Dance Workshop with Imogen Reeve & Co.

Join Imogen Reeve & Co. for an open-level workshop exploring movement, improvisation and themes from their new show Mother Computer: Folk Dances From The Future.

The session begins with Movement Labs - the company’s approach to structured improvisation and choreographic experimentation, developed through five years of practice. Through a rigorous warm-up and detailed movement textures, participants will explore rhythm, repetition, shifting weight, collective movement and the relationship between structure and freedom. Working through practices of copying, witnessing, drifting and flocking, we’ll develop physical awareness, adaptability and movement range.

The workshop will then move into a creative exploration, drawing inspiration from Mother Computer: Folk Dances From The Future. We will learn some set material from the show, as well as working with some of the props in order to generate your own material in response to the work. 

Expect a session that moves between rigour and play, structure and freedom, individual expression and collective experience. No previous experience of the company’s movement practice is required - just a willingness to experiment, move and create.
