We're thrilled to welcome writer and musician Hendrik Otremba to Rough Trade Berlin to celebrate his new book 'CAN - Essays zu Werk und Ästhetik'. Hendrik will be reading from his book, followed by a Q&A with fellow author Uwe Schütte and a Signing afterwards.

The writer and musician Hendrik Otremba takes an empathetic approach to the work of the legendary Cologne band Can and talks to its founder Irmin Schmidt.
The Cologne band Can—although loosely associated with the term Krautrock—cannot be pigeonholed. Between 1968 and 1979, they regularly released albums that are now considered modern classics between pop and avant-garde, composed successful film scores, and played sprawling concerts. The band ist still considered a music legend and internally known.
Hendrik Otremba follows in the footsteps of the band and its protagonists, illuminating their work and aesthetics with equal parts empathy, intelligence, and knowledge in eight essays. Otremba had the great fortune to meet three members of Can—Damo Suzuki (1950–2024) and Holger Czukay (1938–2017)—in person and was able to interview the band's founder, Irmin Schmidt (born 1937), at length for this volume.
