"Alle Macht der Super 8" ("All Power to Super 8") was the precursor (debuting in 1981) to today's INTERFILM. Kodak had introduced the film format to the market back in 1965, making cheap and easy film production a reality. And indeed, it was certainly "super" for the alternative film scene to be able now to create amazing work independently, without a lot of cash – from experimental works to horror thrillers, Super 8 captured it all, until it was pushed to the margins by new technologies. Did the format fade entirely? Nope, filmmakers still continued to use it in the 1980s. RETRO presents early Super 8 classics from the INTERFILM project – an homage to the post-punk ethos of DIY culture, which breathed new energy and enthusiasm into the dusty format and made it its own.
