Mit einer kraftvollen Stimme,stark wie ein Schiffshorn, und einer mitreißenden Bühnenpräsenz schreibt Nani Vazana neue Lieder in der vom Aussterben bedrohten Sprache Ladino. In ihren Texten verarbeitet sie ihre Migrationsgeschichte und verbindet die Klänge eines belebten Marktplatzes mit der Leidenschaft des Flamenco.

Nani hat Ladino heimlich von ihrer marokkanischen Großmutter gelernt, weil ihr Vater es zu Hause verboten hatte. Ihre Musik wurde 2023 in der Bibliothek des US-Kongresses dokumentiert und erreichte 2022 Platz 11 der International World Music Charts sowie Platz 13 der World Music Charts Europe.

Nani ist die erste Künstlerin weltweit, die eigene Songs in Ladino schreibt. Ihr neues Album „Ke Haber“ (auf Deutsch: Was gibt’s Neues?) bringt die uralte, matriarchale Sprache mit aktuellen Themen in die Gegenwart – Migration, Geschlechterrollen und weibliche Stärke. Die Musik erinnert an die Geräusche und Gerüche eines Marktplatzes und mischt leidenschaftlichen Flamenco-Gesang mit Posaune, Mariachi-Gitarre, Percussion und Klavier.

With a powerful voice like a ship's horn and an irresistible stage presence, Nani Vazana writes new songs in the endangered Ladin language. Her fascinating blend of migration flows into her song lyrics and combines the sounds of the marketplace with the drama of flamenco. Nani learned Ladino from her Moroccan grandmother in secret, as her father forbade them to speak Ladino at home. Her music was documented for the Library of Congress 2023,  and charted #11 on the International World Music Chart 2022, #13 on the World Music Chart Europe 2022.

Nani is the world's first Ladino songwriter. Her new album "Ke Haber" (What's New) captures the spirit of the ancient, matriarchal language and catapults it into the future with socially relevant lyrics that celebrate migration, gender and female empowerment. The soundscape captures the sounds and smells of the marketplace and combines them with raw, flamenco vocals, soft choral trombone, mariachi guitar, percussion and piano.
