Aidai, an elderly baksy (traditional healer), tends to the bodies and souls of villagers. When a local businessman erects a gas station and motel on the land she inhabits—and her grandson is abducted—Aidai vanishes, setting off a chain of uncanny reversals. Omarova fuses social drama with a fable to question “modernization” and the fragile ethics of care on the steppe.

Emerging from the post-Soviet landscape, Вокалды параллелдер (Vocal Parallels) and Бақсы (Native Dancer) move between myth and realism, ritual and survival. They reimagine a cinematic space where women act not as symbols of change but as mediators between worlds.
