15 years. That is how long Oh Dae-su, an average businessman and family man, is imprisoned in a windowless one-room apartment after being overpowered and kidnapped by unknown gangsters. 15 years without any human contact and in total uncertainty as to why—or for how long—he is being held. From television news, he learns of his wife's murder, for which the perpetrators have framed him. When he is released back into freedom just as abruptly as he was deprived of it, his abductor challenges him to discover the reason for this unspeakable ordeal. But Oh Dae-su has only one goal: Revenge. Revenge against those who destroyed his life, killed his wife, and shattered his peace of mind forever.
