In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore the historic photographic process of cyanotype — a camera-less technique that produces deep blue, dreamlike prints using UV light.
After a short introduction to the origins of cyanotype in the 19th century and its evolution into contemporary art, participants will create their own unique prints using plants, objects, and photographic negatives.
Using UV lamps for exposure, we will experiment with composition, transparency, and shadow. While the prints develop, we will dive into the cultural history of cyanotype and look at inspiring contemporary applications of this process.
Each participant will leave with several original cyanotype prints and the knowledge to continue experimenting at home. No prior experience required.
