Learn directly from Athie, ask all your questions, explore his approach to DJing, track selection, transitions and building a set — and create your own recorded DJ track to take home.

This is not a regular DJ workshop. It’s a personal session with an internationally touring artist, designed to give you direct access to the knowledge, experience and creative process behind the decks.

FROM ROOTS TO RHYTHM

South African Music Award–winning DJ, producer and cultural curator Athie Umgido brings an Afro-futuristic sound from Mdantsane, East London to global dance floors.

Blending Afro House, Afro Tech and melodic electronic music, his sound is rooted in township rhythm and shaped by the energy of the European underground. Since starting his DJ journey in 2009, Athie has become a key voice in the evolution of African electronic music, co-founding Umgido Records and working with Bridges for Music as an A&R, label manager and mentor for emerging artists.

His music and performances have received support from Black Coffee, Skrillex, Âme, Keinemusik, Stimming, Gordo, Oliver Koletzki and Zakes Bantwini. His credits include Busiswa’s SAMA-winning album, a sync placement on Netflix’s JIVA!, and his track “Barr Setta”, supported by BBC Radio 1 and reaching #1 on Traxsource’s Hidden Weapons chart.

Athie has performed at EDC Las Vegas 2026, UNVRS Ibiza 2025/26, Akasha Ibiza, Awakenings Festival 2026, Garbicz Festival 2024/25/26, Rave The Planet 2024/25, Rocking the Daisies 2022/23, Fusion Festival 2025, Wonderfruit Thailand 2024, Afrika Burn – Ubuhlanti Stage, Amsterdam Dance Event, IMS Ibiza, Waagenbau Hamburg, Kater, Fundbureau, Descendants Hamburg, Bazique Festival, Wolfkop Weekender, United We Stream, Lighthouse Festival, Bucht der Träumer and many more.

His sets are immersive and emotionally charged — hypnotic percussion, melodic storytelling and a deep connection between roots and rhythm.
