Rough Trade x Flux FM x Kalle Neukölln present: DEKI ALEM (HYBRID SET)
A quartet by form, but something more atmospheric in function, Deki Alem is not easily located in genre or geography. The music feral, propulsive, and strangely lucid, draws on the overstimulated DNA of drum and bass, post-punk, rap, and the pixelated ghosts of club music. Yet it rarely settles. It slips. It morphs. It runs parallel to culture, sometimes in confrontation, sometimes in communion.
At the centre of this movement are the Bennett twins, Johnny and Sammy, lyricists and songwriters whose voices ricochet like warnings inside cathedral-high walls. They do not deliver lyrics so much as detonate them. Beside them, Richard Zastenker and Johannes Klahr, producers and songwriters with mythic résumés and a taste for disorder, distort the floor beneath your feet. Between the four, a tense balance remains, restless but intact.
Now, 'Forget In Mass' approaches. Two years in the making, their debut album is less a collection of songs than a study in escapism. If Among Heads was a mirror, this is a blindfold, an invitation to see differently. The lead single, “Fun,” offers little comfort. It's a sardonic hymn for the age of over-optimization, a celebration of dysfunction in a world obsessed with cleansing itself of its edges. Follow-up “House Fire” sets the tone ablaze, an uprising in real time.
The philosophy is simple but not gentle: to forget, together. To erase what numbs. To misremember what controls. To invent new instincts.
Deki Alem does not exist to make sober sense. It exists to make contact. With the primal. With the possible. With each other. As they move through 2025, taking 'Forget In Mass' across Europe and beyond.
