“STRONG-BORN” is the literal translation of the name Iphigenia. In her new work, Kat Válastur takes inspiration from the play “Iphigenia in Aulis” by Euripides and the story of sacrifice at its centre. Three women perform a dance that aspires to transform a demand for sacrifice into a rebellious resistance against it. The movements are determined by sound-making elements attached to their bodies and the resonating sonic interplay with a circular wooden platform placed at the centre of the stage. In interaction with the innovative percussionist Valentina Magaletti, something akin to a contemporary ritual emerges, one which elucidates the sonic force of the female body in a fight against disposability.
