Based on Suzanne Collins‘ (»The Hunger Games« series) 2020 novel of the same name, this highly anticipated film serves as a prequel to the global phenomenon »The Hunger Games« (2012), and is the fifth installment in the immensly popular blockbuster series. Taking place 64 years before Katniss Everdeen volunteered as a tribute, and decades before Coriolanus Snow became the tyrannical President of Panem, the film follows a young Coriolanus (Blyth) who is the last hope for his failing lineage, the once-proud Snow family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. With the 10th annual Hunger Games approaching, Snow is alarmed when he is assigned to mentor Lucy Gray (Zegler; »West Side Story«, »Shazam! 2«) , the female tribute from impoverished District 12. But, after Lucy’s charm captivate the audience of Panem, Snow sees an opportunity to shift their fates. Uniting their instincts for showmanship and newfound political savvy, Snow and Lucy’s race against time to survive will ultimately reveal who is a songbird, and who is a snake.
