Mory und Anta träumen davon, nach Paris ins «verheißene Land» zu gehen. Er ist Viehhirte, doch seine Herden wurden zum Schlachthof geführt. Seitdem treibt sich Mory mit dem Motorrad, das er zum Andenken an seine Zebus mit zwei Hörnern verziert hat, in der Stadt herum. Anta ist Studentin und lebt ebenfalls am Rande der Gesellschaft. Beide beschließen alles zu unternehmen, um das nötige Geld für ihre Reise zusammenzubringen. TOUKI BOUKI inszeniert ironisch den Bruch einer Gesellschaft zwischen den Wurzeln und der Faszination für das Anderswo. Regisseur Djibril Diop Mambéty interessiert sich hier erneut für marginalisierte Charaktere, um eine relevante Vision der Gesellschaft zu vermitteln.

Mory and Anta dream of going to Paris to the "promised land". Mory is a cattle herder, but his flocks have been taken to the slaughterhouse. Since then, Mory has been drifting around the city on his motorbike, adorned with two horns in memory of his zebus. Anta is a student who lives on the fringes of society herself. The two decide to do all they can to raise enough money for their trip. TOUKI BOUKI ironically stages the split of a society between its origins and its fascination for the elsewhere. Director Djibril Diop Mambéty once again focuses on marginalised characters in order to convey a relevant vision for society.
