This event presents a revolutionary communist position on the war against Iran: opposing imperialist and Zionist aggression while refusing any political support for the Islamic Republic, a state that has crushed labour organizing, imprisoned workers, and enforced decades of austerity and privatization against the working class in Iran. It also rejects the use of the Islamic Republic’s internal repression as a justification for imperialist war and intervention, while insisting that opposition to war must not be transformed into political support for the Iranian state or silence toward its repression of its own population.

The second part of this event examines the possible post-war trajectory of the Islamic Republic and critically traces the emergence of the “Axis of Resistance”: state-aligned nationalist leftists who subordinate class politics to a realpolitik analysis of interstate relations, reducing socialism to the defence of capitalist states positioned against the US and Israel, regardless of their internal class relations.
