Seit den größten Protesten des Landes gegen die manipulierte Wahl Lukaschenkos 2020 herrscht in Belarus ein gefährliches Klima der Verfolgung. Viele Aktivist*innen sind Verhaftungen und Repressionen ausgesetzt. Viele fliehen ins Exil. Der Dokumentarfilm begleitet drei außergewöhnliche Frauen, die der Diktatur die Stirn bieten: Die 74-jährige Nina, eine Symbolfigur des Widerstands; Tanya, Gründerin des renommierten Menschenrechtsfilmfestivals “Watch Docs”, und die Menschenrechtsaktivistin Darya vom Human Rights Center Viasna. Regisseurin Juliane Tutein zeigt uns nicht nur den Mut und die Entschlossenheit der Aktivistinnen, sondern auch die Unterdrückung und Gewalt, mit der sie und ihre Mitstreiter*innen in Belarus täglich konfrontiert sind.

Im Anschluss findet ein Gespräch mit der Regisseurin Juliane Tutein und einer Menschenrechtsaktivistin statt.

Die Veranstaltung findet in Kooperation mit der Stiftung Friedliche Revolution und Bürgerrecht.Akademie der Volkshochschule Leipzig im Rahmen der Reihe Conflict:ed – Wie können wir Freiheit und Demokratie bewahren? statt.  Das Projekt ist gefördert vom Programm Demokratie Leben! des Bundesfamilienministeriums, der Stadt Leipzig und dem Freistaat Sachsen.

ENG: Since the country's largest protests against Lukashenko's rigged election in 2020, a climate of persecution has prevailed in Belarus. Many activists are being arrested and repressed. Many flee into exile. The documentary follows three extraordinary women who are standing up to the dictatorship: 74-year-old Nina, a symbolic figure of the resistance; Tanya, founder of the renowned human rights film festival “Watch Docs”, and human rights activist Darya from the Human Rights Center Viasna. Director Juliane Tutein shows us not only the courage and determination of the activists, but also the oppression and violence that they and their fellow riders are confronted with every day in Belarus.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with the director Juliane Tutein and a human rights activist. 

The event is being held in cooperation with Stiftung Friedliche Revolution and Bürgerrecht.Akademie der Volkshochschule Leipzig as part of the project "Conflict:ed - How can we preserve freedom and democracy?"  The project is funded by the Demokratie Leben! program of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, the City of Leipzig and the Free State of Saxony.
