Das sagt der/die Veranstalter:in:

When India was partitioned in 1947, the songs of my ancestors travelled west with Ammi, my maternal grandmother. Comforting herself through the words and melodies that had escaped with her, she moved across the border to Pakistan. Invisible, weightless, and easy to conceal, these songs—which connected her to her origins, to her home and her own—were passed down to Amma, my mother, and later on to me.

In singing Ammi’s most cherished song, Suno Sakhi, Ammi, Amma, and I access a distant past. Through the ritual of singing and the song’s lyrical expressions of devotion and longing for that which seems unattainable, we transcend borders and compose a world in which we all still live together—a place where voice, sonic memories, and oral histories seek to reconstitute our living quarters, our mahal.
