Europa und Thüringen am Scheideweg - Demokratie, Freiheit, Rechtsstaat in Gefahr?

Europe is at a crossroads. An impending increase in right-wing populist and right-wing nationalist forces in the European Parliament could lead to a shift in the political majority towards more conservative to clearly right-wing positions. Such a shift to the right would have far-reaching consequences for the debates on EU reforms and enlargement and could pose serious challenges for the Union. At the same time, such a development at European level would not be without consequences for the challenging political situation in Thuringia, as a clear shift to the right could also occur here this year.

Everyone should be aware of this: In view of the multitude of domestic and foreign policy challenges facing Europe, the importance of Europe's ability to act and its resilience is becoming ever greater. Securing social and societal cohesion in a united Europe, strengthening democracy and the rule of law as well as coping with ecological and economic changes require a coordinated and joint approach by all EU member states.

The event "Democracy, diversity, rule of law: Europe and Thuringia in focus" will therefore address the pressing issues surrounding the future of Europe and their impact on Thuringia, as well as possible political developments in the Free State itself.

The event will take place on May 28, 2024 from 6:30 pm in the Franz Mehlhose Erfurt.
