The Bavarian Radio Choir is held in high esteem all over the world due to its special tonal homogeneity and stylistic versatility. Founded in 1946 and based in Munich, the choir is one of the few professional choirs in Bavaria and is one of seven radio choirs of the ARD regional broadcasting stations. As artistic director, Peter Dijkstra shapes the versatile musical profile of the choir. The designated chief conductor Sir Simon Rattle will take office in fall 2023.

Guest performances have taken the choir to Japan and to the festivals in Lucerne and Salzburg. Top European orchestras, including the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, as well as original sound ensembles such as the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and Il Giardino Armonico, value the collaboration with the BR Choir, which is regularly conducted by conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Daniel Harding, Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Andris Nelsons.
