Ferge X Fisherman

Detached from any conventionality, the songs of hip hop band Ferge X Fisherman are entirely in the spirit of jazz, which plays a gigantic role in their music. Above all, the group's casual, subtle complexity ensures that the freedoms of this genre shine through in their music time and again. Every dab of sound lands exactly where it belongs: a piano figure suddenly fills the gaps; a clever chord change shifts the harmonic structure for a brief moment; a snare hit comes a millisecond too late and thus creates the unmistakable laid-back feeling of Ferge X Fisherman. As is so often the case, it's the little details that turn something good into something great.

And on top of it all is Fritz Fisherman, who raps like a jazz instrumentalist would. With his fresh approach to the English language and his introspective lyricism (as well as his slightly smoky, slightly nasal voice), he forms the lyrical center of the band. The project began with him and producer Ferge, who met as teenagers while skating in Nuremberg. However, their original chemistry was quickly expanded to include a close collaboration with the four-piece, super-savvy jazz band Nujakasha, who have become an integral part of Ferge X Fisherman both in the studio and live.

Over time, this circle of friends also gave rise to the label of the same name, in which the six musicians handle almost everything themselves (e.g. videos, merch, finances). This team spirit is also evident in the music of Ferge X Fisherman: the wonderful crackling of old vinyl samples is combined with crisp drums, smooth electric piano chords and adventurous bass lines. This results in tracks in which a lot happens - and which are nevertheless easy to grasp. You never want to let them go.
