Dynamic, courageous, visionary

The Munich Symphony Orchestra is an extraordinary orchestra with a great deal of innovative strength and a wealth of ideas as well as a healthy dose of experimentation. Through multifaceted and stimulating programs, the orchestra discovers new worlds of sound together with its audience and invites them to rethink (not only) classical music.

The Munich Symphony Orchestra is breaking new ground in particular with visionary projects in the field of cultural education: The "MSY goes VR" project, which was awardedthe KULTURLICHTER - German Prize for Cultural Education, brings classical music to the people using innovative virtual reality technology and creates a new form of approachability. With MASTERS OF INCLUSION, the Munich Symphony Orchestra, together with the Chair of Intellectual Development at LMU and an inclusive ensemble from the Münchner Kammerspiele, launched a special concert project in which people with and without disabilities perform on stage. For more than 20 years, the Munich Symphony Orchestra has also been bringing music to schoolchildren with unparalleled commitment and bringing children to music in the rehearsal hall during their popular rehearsal visits. And as an orchestra of change, they have set themselves the goal of musically highlighting the urgency of climate protection and a sustainable lifestyle.

A great affinity for film music is deeply rooted in the history of the Munich Symphony Orchestra: since it was founded in 1945 by Kurt Graunke, it has recorded more than 650 film scores, including the Oscar-nominated soundtrack to "The Silence of the Lambs" and the music for classic films such as "The Neverending Story 3" and "Das Boot". More recently, the Munich Symphony Orchestra has performed the award-winning anime soundtrack to films from the famous Ghibli studios by and with their composer Joe Hisaishi. The orchestra continues to remain true to its roots and plays famous film music live in concert to accompany the film.

As an orchestra without its own concert hall, the Munich Symphony Orchestra is at home as a sound ambassador everywhere: in Munich's concert halls and clubs (Prinzregententheater, Isarphilharmonie, Allerheiligen-Hofkirche and Technikum in the Werksviertel-Mitte), the surrounding area of Munich (Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Kempten, among others) as well as on concert tours on the big stages at home and abroad. In short: the Munich Symphony Orchestra brings the "sound of our city" to the people of Munich and beyond.

With Joseph Bastian as Chief Conductor/Artistic Director, the Munich Symphony Orchestra has had the ideal partner since the 23/24 season to realize bold and visionary concert projects and to rediscover the love of classical music.
