New Leipzig Chopin Society e.V.

In 1992, pianists, music teachers, university lecturers, orchestral musicians, singers and music lovers founded the New Leipzig Chopin Society. Its numerous events have become firmly established in the musical life of Leipzig and the surrounding area.

The Leipzig Chopin Days, sponsored by the city of Leipzig, take place every year near the anniversary of Fryderyk Chopin's death on October 17. From 2002 to 2005, Chopin's complete works were performed in 24 concerts as part of the "CHOPIN complet" cycle.

Together with the city of Markkleeberg, the members of the society and guests organize the concert series HERFURTHSCHE HAUSMUSIK in the White House, formerly WESTPHALSCHE HAUSMUSIK. The 10-12 concerts per year feature works by Fryderyk Chopin and composers close to him as well as cycles of piano works, chamber music and songs by Mozart, Schubert, Brahms, Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Schumann, among others, to mark their anniversaries. The summer serenade in July and the festive salon at the end are also among the highlights.

The society has released two CDs to date: the CD with works by Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Chopin and Schumann in 2000 and the album "Widmungen" with music by Fryderyk Chopin in the anniversary year 2010.

To promote young musicians, the society organizes the piano and chamber music workshop for children and young people and has been awarding Chopin prizes from the Soroptimist Club Leipzig for several years.

In its anniversary year CLARA 19, the Clara Schumann Competition for young pianists was held for the first time, with the Rahn Dittrich Group's European Foundation for Education and Culture as one of its sponsors.

Other long-standing partners include the Polish Institute Berlin Leipzig Branch, the Kulturzentrum Goldne Sonne Schneeberg and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig.
