TITANS RISING Ensemble for Early Music
The TITANS RISING Ensemble for Early Music was founded in 2014 by Sarah Fuhs and its diverse repertoire is dedicated to music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The contrasting TITANS RISING program of chamber music performances covers a broad thematic spectrum from the crystal-clear polyphony of the Renaissance to the magnificent sacred music of the Counter-Reformation or the lively secular music of the Italian early Baroque to exotic Baroque music from South America.
The virtuoso Roman program with Carissimi's "Historia di Jephte" was performed again for the ensemble's 10th anniversary in early 2024. The Christmas program "Bailar y danzar!" with an exciting contrast between Johannes Kapsberger's Roman oratorio "I pastori di Bettelemme" and Baroque music from Bolivia has been funded by the Berlin Senate Department 2021. The TITANS RISING Ensemble has also received basic funding for early music ensembles since 2023.
A particular focus of TITANS RISING is the presentation of interesting people and events in history through our concerts. To this end, we are constantly developing our ongoing series on powerful women in politics and the arts. We also use short videos and other multimedia content embedded in our printed programs to showcase the lives of our female protagonists. At past concerts, for example, we presented the patroness Margaret of Austria and the rivalry between Lucrezia Borgia and Isabella d'Este in this way. Many more women's stories are planned for future projects.
Another focus of TITANS RISING is on rarely performed works or unjustly forgotten composers of early music. On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Sebastiano Festa in 2024, we will present the Italian Frottola as well as the first madrigals by him and contemporaries such as Philippe Verdelot, Jhan Gero and others. In this way, the ensemble aims to make the entire diversity of early music accessible to a broad public, arouse curiosity among the audience and cultivate the valuable musical heritage.
The TITANS RISING Ensemble regularly performs in the concert series of the same name at Lietzensee in Berlin-Charlottenburg, which is held around ten times a year in the Berlin Protestant Church Am Lietzensee with varied programs and has been a member of the European Early Music Network REMA since 2024. For the 100th concert, the focus was on madrigals by Johann Hermann Schein and dances by Michael Praetorius, among others, in order to present the theme "All wild animals in the green forest - a celebration of nature". Collaborations with educational institutions in Berlin and Brandenburg are planned for 2024/25.
