According to Hermann Hesse, there is a magic in every beginning. At the start of the new concert season, this is particularly true for the Bremen Philharmonic, as the orchestra is celebrating a very special anniversary with its 200th season. And there is another jubilarian: Anton Bruckner was also born 200 years ago. Reason enough to perform one of his most poignant works, the Ninth Symphony. He composed it as his last work, leaving the final movement unfinished. And as if he had already sensed his approaching death, he dedicated his Ninth to "the dear God". A very moving work with a large orchestration in all registers, similar to Richard Strauss' Four Last Songs. As a special treat, there is a real rarity beforehand: Ludwig van Beethoven's overture to the play King Stephen. The sheet music for it has long lain dormant in the archives of the Bremen Philharmonic Society. It's high time to bring it back to life and usher in a very special season.
