18. LICHTER FILMFEST FRANKFURT INTERNATIONAL

Supported by a top-class regional and international program, it focuses in particular on those facets of cinematic art that are often neglected in everyday cinema and television.
The LICHTER Filmfest Frankfurt International is a festival for film. It brings the region, its audience and its creatives together with guests from all over the world. Building bridges between film, artistic forms of expression and social dialog makes LICHTER something special among German film festivals.

The idea behind LICHTER is quickly explained: just as the hand is made up of five fingers, the LICHTER film festival is also made up of five sections. And just as the hand can form its fingers into a fighting fist, LICHTER also bundles its five sections into a strong unit that sets all kinds of things in motion year after year.

Speaking of coming of age: we are now grown up enough for an annual theme that we probably wouldn't have dared to tackle when we were younger, but which seems to be a natural choice: FEAR! Because we are undoubtedly living in an age of fear. It accompanies most of us all the time, but very few of us talk about it. We want to change that. Films are better suited to this than any other medium!
