"1933: Politics and terror in Hanover"

After Hitler's government was installed, the National Socialists intensified their attacks on the Hanoverian labor movement. On February 21, 1933, two Reichsbanner members were murdered at the Lister Turm and others were seriously injured. On April 1, 1933, the SS and SA first storm the trade union building in Nikolaistraße, then the building of the factory workers' association on Rathenauplatz. The Nazis - violent and ready to use force - dominate the street. After the destruction of the trade unions, the way is clear for dictatorship and preparations for war.

Exhibition

The lecture is part of the program accompanying the exhibition "Wehrhafte Demokratie. The Reichsbanner Black-Red-Gold and the Defense of the Weimar Republic", which can be seen from 5-24 November on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Reichsbanner Black-Red-Gold in the Lower Saxony state parliament. The exhibition is organized by the "Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold, Bund aktiver Demokraten e.V.", the "Gedenkstätte Deutscher Widerstand" foundation and the Lower Saxony state parliament.
