25 years of Express Brass Band

For a quarter of a century now, the Munich collective Express Brass Band has been on the road with around 20 musicians in the international music cosmos: as a street, wedding and funeral band, in concert halls, clubs and at festivals. The variety of instrumentalists and styles - from jazz, soul, Afrobeat, New Orleans brass and Latin to funky Maghreb tunes - contributes to the fact that the sound of the changing formations is difficult to categorize and yet remains unmistakable. Guest musicians and rappers also join in from time to time: Satellites of a planet in constant rotation. To mark the anniversary, the collective is releasing a single entitled "It's your birthday" - there's no shame in celebrating yourself - and is inviting long-time fellow musicians and friends to join in the celebrations under the motto: You can indulge yourselves without end!

Samenakoa from Marseille celebrates with the Express Brass Band

20 years ago, the Fanfare Samenakoa from Marseille visited the Glockenbachwerkstatt in Munich, invited by Tuncay, who asked the Express Brass Band if they would like to join them for the concert. As the brass band had a regular evening at the Glocke entitled "Express Gumbo", it was clear that this encounter had to be called "Gumbo meets Bouillabaisse". On two consecutive evenings, people cooked, played, DJed and partied until the early hours of the morning. Since then, the EBB has been to Marseille several times, playing and partying with their French friends in clubs and on the beach. So there's no question that the musicians of the defunct fanfare are now coming back to play and celebrate at the EBB's 25th birthday party.
