Praised for her inspiring playing and unmistakable tone, Latvian violinist Baiba Skride returns to the KAP after many years. Together with the American conductor Joshua Weilerstein, she will perform Bernstein's famous Serenade, composed after Plato's "Symposium". A dialog between solo instrument and orchestra unfolds from the thoughts in the text, setting love in all its facets to music. As a conductor, Bernstein often devoted himself to the works of his contemporary Shostakovich, whose contrasting sound world fascinated him. The composer Betty Olivero draws inspiration from tradition and philosophy, with the music of her Israeli homeland always in her ear.
