The "Scilia" or "Schlern" is one of the most imposing mountain ridges in the Dolomites, also known as the mountain of destiny. The music of Giorgio Battistelli's orchestral work of the same name refers to emotional sensory impressions as well as the "search for something that lies beyond our existence".
The 84-year-old Richard Strauss explored the finite nature of this in his Four Last Songs during his time in exile in Switzerland. His gaze wanders back in a mellow old age, and the work fades away with wonderful cantilenas "deep in the sunset" with the question "Is this death?".
She was Max Reger's "master student" and saw herself as a lifelong follower of Johann Sebastian Bach, Johannes Brahms and - of course - Max Reger. However, Johanna Senfter always retained her independent originality in the condensation of her tonality. After the Second World War, her music was initially forgotten. And is only now being rediscovered.
