6. Leipziger Clara Schumann-Wettbewerb für junge Pianisten - Vorspiele

In the organizer's words:

The next generation of young pianists in the Leipzig Clara Schumann Competition for Young Pianists, which is held throughout Germany, will take on the challenging compositions of Clara Schumann. The prepared programs can be heard in a public audition on October 19, between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. in the Chamber Music Hall of the University of Music (Free admission). A total of 22 young musicians (aged 10 and over) from Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia will compete for the prizes in three age groups. The competition encourages the expansion of the repertoire beyond the well-known pianistic canon, particularly by dealing with works by female composers that have rarely been played to date.

The jury consists of the great-great-great-granddaughter of Clara and Robert Schumann, Heike-Angela Moser (Munich), Sonia Achkar (HMDK Stuttgart), Katharina Treutler (Berlin), Prof. Gudrun Franke and Prof. Alexander Meinel (HMT Leipzig). This year's prizewinners can be heard on Sunday, October 20, 11 a.m., at the Schumann House in Leipzig.

The promotion of young talent has been a particular concern of the New Leipzig Chopin Society since it was founded. Its 2nd Chairwoman, Prof. Gudrun Franke, has been organizing the piano and chamber music workshop for pupils and young people for over 20 years. In 2019, she initiated the Clara Schumann Competition for the CLARA19 festival year and found reliable sponsors in the Soroptimist International Club Leipzig, the Polish Institute Berlin - Leipzig Branch, the European Foundation of the Rahn Dittrich Group for Education and Culture, the Schumann House and the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Academy of Music and Theater . Three prizes worth a total of 2,250 euros will be awarded in each of the three age groups. Sponsorship prizes are also available.
