Scene 10 presents the absolute Christmas classic in a new guise: A Christmas Carol in the bakery.

The "Szene 10" acting ensemble already impresses with the virtuosity of its players and this year they have once again set out to create warmth in our hearts as journeyman bakers and Christmas spirits and will once again present the Christmas story based on Charles Dickens in December 2024.

In its more than 160 years of existence, the story has lost none of its power, poetry and mission. Regardless of culture and religion, Dickens presents the earthly path to redemption, explains the basic principles of solidarity and shows every reader what humanity and kindness mean.

Charles Dickens' imaginative novella tells the story of the dogged old merchant Ebenezer Scrooge, who cold-heartedly and ruthlessly torments unfortunate debtors and treats his fellow human beings with nothing but distrust and contempt. His underpaid assistant Bob Cratchit and his family suffer particularly from his icy gray soul. Even the approaching Christmas is a nuisance and superfluous to Scrooge. But then, one turbulent Christmas night, he is haunted by three ghosts who confront him with the stages of his cold-hearted life ...

The classic is presented in a new, surprising, completely "modern" and, above all, comical version that will not only delight audiences at Christmas time. The audience can look forward to a small, enchanted bakery that is transformed into the world of Scrooge. Flour sifter and bread dough are brought to life here.

Thos Renneberg's production promises bizarre ghostly apparitions, slapstick-like time travel and turbulent role changes. The Essen-based actor and director is co-founder of the commedia dell'arte ensemble "Narratak", author of juggler's manuals and an expert in fast-paced, comic productions. He is committed to the idea of searching for humor in tragedy and lyricism in comedy. In his latest directorial work, Renneberg has just four actors playing over 30 characters in a wintery snowstorm while baking Christmas cookies live on stage.
